Trader Joe’s is a fun, affordable grocery store where you can find employees wearing fun Hawaiian shirts, hard-to-find items, and great deals. Trader Joe’s offers items under their own name, cutting costs with those savings passed on to customers. The store offers low, everyday prices because they buy direct from suppliers. There are no sales, no club cards, nothing to join, just low prices on every item, every day.

They are well-known for offering unique items, like their very popular cookie butter to their gluten-free cake and brownie mixes; many of the items at Trader Joe’s have a cult-like following. The store also sells beer and wine, with the same low price points. In fact, they are famous for their ‘Two Buck Chuck’, a Charles Shaw wine that did retail for just $1.99 when it was introduced, but today retails for $3. Trader Joe’s buys in volume to get the best prices and if an item doesn’t sell, they pull it from the shelves.

Trader Joe’s started out as a small convenience store chain in the 1950s, called Pronto Market. In 1967, their founder, Joe Coulombe, changed the name to Trader Joe’s and expanded the size of the stores and their scope. Today, Trader Joe’s can be found all across the country.

Trader Joe’s came to the Seaholm District in 2015. It opened on May 1st, 2015, and was their third location in Austin, but the first one downtown.
